Davide Carbone's Bio:

Davide M. Carbone has played an active role in the healthcare industry for more than 30 years. Davide most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of St. Mary’s Medical Center (SMMC) and the Palm Beach Children's Hospital at St. Mary's, a 464-bed acute care facility including a 142-bed pediatric hospital, located in West Palm Beach Florida from 2006-2015.  St Mary’s is a Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, Brain and Spine Injury Center, High Risk OB Center and a Comprehensive Stroke and Neuroscience Center, and is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, continues as a affiliated Catholic / faith based facility, and is part of the Tenet Healthcare Corporation system of hospitals, and is a member intuition of the Florida Catholic Conference.    Carbone utilized his experience and leadership skills to realize a substantial financial, operational and image turnaround.  He implemented medical staff, facility and technological improvements, strengthening service lines and facility renovations, resulting in steady growth for the hospital and a return to profitability. This includes the achievement of Level 1 Trauma status, expansion of the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital, the development of a Comprehensive Stroke and Neuroscience Program, and the implementation of the Advanced Orthopedic Institute (including the Paley Institute for Limb Reconstruction Lengthening).   Prior to assuming his role at SMMC, Carbone held several hospital executive positions, including;  the Vice President of Operations and Market Initiatives for the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), with responsibilities in both the South Florida and West Virginia regions, CEO of Aventura Hospital and Medical Center for 13 years and led a dynamic turnaround and a $250+ million dollar redevelopment of that 407-bed acute care medical/surgical facility in Aventura, Florida where he started several new programs including adult open heart and a comprehensive cancer center. Prior to this, Carbone held a variety of hospital / health care positions, from hospital CEO and other administrative positions to healthcare consultant with major two consulting firms.

  • Chief Executive Officer at St. Mary's Medical Center and the Palm Beach Children's Hospital

    Chief Executive Officer of this award-winning, 464 bed ($335m net revenue / $85 m EBDITA), acute care, safety net, tertiary medical / surgical hospital, located in West Palm Beach, Florida, with 1,800 employees and 500 physicians and the top performer in the Florida Region for the Tenet Healthcare system. Developed and implemented strategic business plan and management team, resulting in an eight-fold plus increase in EBIDTA over 9 years. Received numerous personal, community and company awards and recognition including the Tenet Healthcare Corporation’s Circle Of Excellence award 5 of 9 years. Healthgrades Top 5% facility for Labor and Delivery for 2015. Achieved and maintained Leapfrog A rating.

  • Chief Executive Officer at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center

    Chief Executive Officer at a 407 bed ($185 million net revenue) acute medical/surgical and psych facility located between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale and part of the HCA healthcare system. Direct responsibility for hospital administration, operations and development. Managed the facility through an ownership change and then a merger with HCA. Significantly improved; fiscal results, physical plant, equipment, volumes, market share, range of services and visibility and relations with local communities, 1,300 employees, 250 volunteers, and 750 medical staff members.

  • Chief Operating Officer / Regional Manager - Region V at Humana, Inc.

    Chief Operating Officer / Assistant Regional Manager for both a Regional and Market Office. For FY91, the Regional Office represented 15 mostly small and rural hospitals, located in 8 states, representing 1,675 beds. Reported directly to Regional President. Responsibilities included overall administrative management and oversight for hospital operations, capital budgeting/spending, marketing, professional service agreements, contracts/leases, real estate, physician recruiting/relations and new services development. Also served as the Interim CEO of Greenbrier Valley Hospital in West Virginia for several months, during a period of unplanned hospital executive leadership transition.

Davide Carbone's Interests & Activities:

In addition to providing vital hospital leadership, Carbone continues to support the local community by serving as a Trustee and Board Member for the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches and was a 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 Walk Chair for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s annual Light the Night Walk as well as the 2009 Walk Chair for March of Dimes (2009) and American Heart Association (2010 & 2011). He continues to serve on the Boards of the Gulfstream Goodwill Foundation, the South Florida Hospital and Healthcare Association, the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches and is the immediate past Chairman of the Palm Beach Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Through his extensive involvement and contributions throughout the community, Carbone has acquired a reputation as a respected civic and business leader and an informed, experienced and knowledgeable professional in his field. Under his leadership, St. Mary’s Medical Center won the coveted Tenet Circle of Excellence Award 5 times in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015. St Mary’s was honored by the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches as the 2010 Business of the Year. Davide was selected as the 2015 Heroes in Medicine Award by the Palm Beach Medical Society in the non-physician category. He was awarded the CEO of the Year award in October 2010 as part of the Excellence in Healthcare Awards, and also the Palm Beach Ultimate CEO Award in March 2011, both awarded by South Florida Business Journal. He was listed as a “Must Know Contact” in Palm Beach County in the May 2010 issue of Florida Trend Magazine and was also listed as one of the “40 Most Powerful People In Palm Beach County” in the July 2007 issue of Palm Beacher and Boca Life magazines and was featured as the cover story in the March 2011 issue of Smart Business - Florida magazine.
